Mac Career Exploration

Attend the annual Summer Research Showcase (September or October) to see what projects Macalester students worked on over the summer. Be sure to ask them how they found their position!

National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates
A listing of all current openings for undergraduate research positions at NSF-funded projects. Many topic areas contain opportunities of interest to Computer Science majors, so be sure to click through all of them! Applicants must be US citizens, US nationals, or US permanent residents.
Special for Mac: Partnerships with Other Institutions
A listing of opportunities at institutions which have special relationships with Macalester (often collaborations with Macalester faculty) specifically soliciting Macalester student applicants.
Macalester Summer Research Opportunities
On-campus research opportunities for Macalester students in collaboration with Macalester faculty. The MSCS department usually presents an information session between December and February each year, and applications are open through late March or early April.

A long-running subreddit with information about pursuing CS careers. Prone to Reddit-typical discussion patterns, but also a host to many useful resources. Be sure to check the sidebar first.
Applying for PhD Programs
Professor Casey Fiesler (UC-Boulder) created a YouTube playlist of advice about the cycle of applying for doctoral programs. Pick and choose the videos relevant to your stage in the process.
